In problems where only position and nature (not size) of image is asked, do we have to write the magnification of the image as well ?

No its not necessary. Because the marking is done on the basis of question asked. But sometimes other teachers deduct marks because of that. So, according to me I would say that you should mention the magnification too. You don't want to gamble at that point.
