In projectile motion why do we resolve the velocity in two mutually pependicular direction

Because the velocity given is in vector form and so as to handle it easily we resolve it in horizontal and vertical direction because then all the other vector quantities like displacement and acceleration also have a known direction and then it becomes easy to use the equations of motion.
