The correct option is A Carbonates
When a saturated brine solution is treated with NH3 and CO2 in ammonia absorber, they form ammonium carbonate which will react with CaCl2 and MgCl2 chlorides present in the brine solution. These were the major impurities present in the brine solution. On reaction of MgCl2 and CaCl2 with ammonium carbonates forms respective carbonates which are insoluble.
Then the ammoniated brine is filtered to remove Ca and Mg impurites as insoluble carbonates. C
CaCl2+(NH4)2CO3→CaCO3+2NH4Cl
MgCl2+(NH4)2CO3→MgCO3+2NH4Cl
Theory:
Preparation by solvay’s process:
1. Saturation of brine with NH3 and CO2 (in ammonia absorber)
2NH3+CO2+H2O⟶(NH4)2CO3
CaCl2+(NH4)2CO3⟶CaCO3+2NH4Cl
MgCl2+(NH4)2CO3⟶MgCO3+2NH4Cl
Ammoniated brine is filtered to remove Ca and Mg impurities as their insoluble carbonates.
