Solution

According to band theory a partially filled valance band will show conduction means will behave as conductor fully filled band show insulation means will behave as insulator for example lithium behave as conductor.
In case of semiconductors, the gap between the valence band and conduction band is small, therefore, some electrons may jump to the conduction band and shows some conductivity.
For example silicon germanium.
