Area of each shaded region is P and there are four shaded regions.

Let R be the area of remaining region.

Area of square ABCD = Area of shaded region x 4 + area of inner circle + area of remaining region

therefore,

S=4×P+Q+R

thus area of remaining region ( R) = S - 4P -Q
