Let the side of the larger square be ${}^{\prime }{a}^{\prime }$.

$\Rightarrow a^2=50$

$\Rightarrow a=5\sqrt{2}$...(i)

Now let the side of the smaller square be ${}^{\prime }{b}^{\prime }$.

$\Rightarrow b^2=18$

$\Rightarrow b=3\sqrt{2}$

Thus the value of $x$ is
$a-b=5\sqrt{2}-3\sqrt{2}$

$\Rightarrow a-b=2\sqrt{2}$
