In the adjoining figure, ABCD is a parallelogram. If AB=16cm,AE=8cm and CF=10cm, find AD.

Area of parallelogram =Base×Altitude
For ABCD,
AEDC
AE is altitude, DC is the base.
Area of a parallelogram =Base×Altitude
=DC×AE
=AB×AE [ Opposite sides of parallelogram are equal ]
=16×8 ------ ( 1 )
For ABCD,
CFAD
Area of parallelogram =Base×altitude
=AD×CF
=AD×10 ------ ( 2 )
From ( 1 ) and ( 2 ),
16×8=AD×10
AD=16×810
AD=12.8cm
