Line EF = $12-3=9cm$

Area of EFGH = length x breadth

Area of ABCD = length x breadth

$=12\times 8=96c{m}^2$

Area of shaded portion = Area of ABCD - Area of EFGH

$=96-63$

$=33c{m}^2$

Hence, area of the shaded portion is 33 cm² .
