In the adjoining figure two blocks of masses 8kg,6kg are placed on a horizontal smooth surface. Find the acceleration of each block and contact force between the blocks. Also find the force exerted by the horizontal surface on each block.

Solution

The acceleration of each block is same.

a=70N(8+6)kg=5m/s2

Contact force is equal to

F=ma

F=(6×5)N=30N

Force exerted by the horizontal surface is equal to sum of weight and the vertical force on the body.

Force on first body

N1=(8×10+30)N=110N

N2=(6×10+20)N=80N
