Question

In the analysis of an organic compound, it was found that it contains 7 carbon atoms, there are two C = C bonds and one CC bond. This compound is a hydrocarbon. Hydrocarbons have only carbon and hydrogen elements. On structural analysis, it was found that it is covalent in nature and expected structure is given above.

Solution

The correct option is B 2

In the given compound, there are 2 (1 π + 1 σ ) double bonds and 1 (2 π + 1 σ ) triple bond.

Hybridisation of C with double bond is sp2.

Hybridisation of C with triple bond is sp.

There are 2 sp2sp2 carbons present in the structure.

Hence, 1 sp2sp2 has 1 π bond.

Therefore, No of π bonds =2

Hence, option D is correct.
