In the bayer's process, the ore containing ferric oxide as the main impurity is digested at about 423K in presence of concentrated NaOH solution in an autoclave. Alumina is converted to soluble sodium meta aluminate 4NaAlO2.The insoluble impurities such as of ferric oxide are removed by filtration. The solution containing sodium meta aluminate is mixed with freshly prepared aluminium hydroxide to precipitate sodium meta aluminate in the form of aluminium hydroxide.
