In the Birkeland-Eyde process for manufacture of nitric acid, the yield of nitric oxide (N2+O22NO) remains unaffected with increase in pressure. Th number of moles of gaseous reactant are 1+1=2. The number of moles of gaseous products are 2.
Thus, the number of moles of gaseous reactants are equal to the number of moles of gaseous products. Hence, the change in pressure has no effect on the equilibrium. Hence, the yield is unaffected with increase in pressure.
