Solution

Coordinate covalent bond

  • In the formation of a normal covalent bond each of the two bonded atoms contributes one electron to form the bond.
  • However, in some compounds, the formation of a covalent bond between two atoms takes place by the sharing of two electrons, both of which come from only one of the combining atoms. This bond is called a Coordinate covalent bond or a Dative bond.
  • Example: NH4+,H3O+

Therefore, In the Coordinate covalent bond, the contribution of an electron pair is one-sided, but the sharing is equitable.
