There is a recessive gene on the X-chromosome which causes colour blindness. Males have only one X-chromosome, and if the recessive gene is present on it, they will suffer from colour blindness. Females have two X-chromosomes and it is impossible to present these genes on both chromosomes. Hence, if one gene is abnormal ad since it is recessive, its expression will be masked by a normal gene present on another X chromosome. Females are unlikely to suffer from colour blindness
