Solution

The correct option is D

Both (a) and (b)

Explanation for the correct option:

The given reaction is Cl2(g)(Chlorinegas)+2KI(aq)(Potassiumiodide)2KCl(aq)(Potassiumchloride)+I2(s)(Iodine)

Where the products are, Pottasium chloride and Iodine.

  1. Silver nitrate could be used to test Pottasium chloride, reaction is written as follows:

AgNO3(aq)(Silvernitrate)+KCl(aq)(Potassiumchloride)AgCl(s)(Silverchloride)(Whiteprecipitate)+KNO3(aq)(Potassiumnitrate)

A white precipitate of silver chloride is obtained.

Similarly, Silver nitrate is used to test Iodine also,

AgNO3(aq)Silvernitrate+I2(s)(Iodine)+H2O(l)(Water)AgI(s)(Silveriodide)(Yellow)+AgIO3(s)(Silveriodate)+HNO3(aq)(Nitricacid)

The yellow color of Silver Iodide is obtained.

2. Starch test is also performed to test Potassium Iodide and Iodine,

2KCl(aq)(Potassiumchloride)+I2(s)(Iodine)WhentreatedwithstarchBlueblackcolourisobtained.

Explanation for the incorrect option:

Option C is incorrect because the Litmus test is not used here, It is used to test acids and bases in aqueous solutions.

Option A is incorrect because Silver nitrate alone is not the correct option.

Option B is incorrect because option Starch alone is not the correct option.

Hence, option D is correct.
