Question

In the circuit element given here, if the potential at point B is zero, i.e., VB=0, then the potential difference (in volts) between points A and D, i.e., VAVD is

Open in App
Solution

VAVB=i×1.5 Ω

Here i=1A

then VAVB=1×1.5=1.5 V

But VB=0 [given]

VA=1.5+VB=1.5 V ...(1)

VBVC=1×2.5

VBVC=2.5 V

or VC=VB2.5=2.5 V

VCVD=2 V

VD=VC+2=2.5+2

or VD=0.5 V ....(2)

VAVD=1.5(0.5) ( from (1) and (2) )

VAD=2 V

Hence, potential difference between A and D is 2 V.
