Solution

The correct option is C 0.25 V
In the given potentiometer, resistance per unit length is x=0.01 Ω/cm.

Length of potentiometer wire is L=400 cm

Net resistance of the wire AB will be

RAB = resistance per unit length × length of AB

RAB=0.01×400=4 Ω

Net internal resistance of the cells connected in series,

r=0.5+0.5=1 Ω

Current in the given potentiometer circuit is,

I=Net emfTotal resitance=Net Emfr+R+RAB

I=1.5+1.51+1+4=0.5 A

Reading of the voltmeter when the jockey is at l=50 cm from one end A,

V=IR=I(xl)=0.5×(0.01×50)

V=14=0.25 V

Hence, option (c) is correct.
