As closing or opening of the switch S does not affect the reading of the galvanometer, so points B and D are at the same potential. The current I1 flows through the resistance R3 and the current I2 flows through the galvanometer. C is the junction point where current from R and G will meet. Hence, current through the galvanometer is I2.
