  • Phagocytosis is a process of ingestion of extracellular foreign particles or bacterium and its subsequent digestion. Amoeba does this by extending their pseudopodia around the food and envelops it completely with cytoplasm which results in the formation of food vacuole.
  • Food vacuole fuses with the lysosome containing digestive enzymes. As digestion goes on, the food vacuole shrinks, and the products of the digestion are diffused into the cytoplasm.
