In the electrolytic refining of zinc, impure zinc is used as anode and acidified ZnSO4 that is, ZnSO4+H2SO4 is used as the electrolyte. Since zinc can react with even dil.H2SO4, we use aluminium as the cathode instead of pure zinc.
