In the figure given below, ABCD is a rectangle, AB=14 cm,BC=7 cm. From the rectangle, a quarter circle BFEC and a semicircle DGE are removed. Calculate the area of the remaining piece of the rectangle. (Take π=227)

Solution

Area of rectangle ABCD=14×7=98 cm2
Area of quarter circle BFEC=14π(7)2=494π
Area of semi-circle DGE=12π(72)2=12×494π
Area of remaining piece of rectangle =98[494π+12×494π]
=98494π[1+12]
=98494×227×32=982314
=9857.75
=40.25 cm2.
