The circulatory system supplies oxygen-rich (oxygenated) blood from the lungs to the rest of the body. Similarly, it functions to transfer oxygen deficient (deoxygenated, carbon dioxide-rich) blood from the rest of the body back to the lungs. Remember that the lungs are the site of gaseous exchange where oxygen is absorbed into blood and carbon dioxide is released back into the air. The blood that is carried from the lungs to a different part of the body is oxygenated blood and it is represented in green arrow whereas the blood that is carried from different parts of the body to lungs is deoxygenated and it is represented in red arrow.
