Let V1 be the centre of mass velocity of the cylinder and ω be its angular velocity.

Since, there is no slipping of the point of contact, VAB=0, where A is the lowermost point of the cylinder and B belongs to the block. Taking right as positive,
VAB=0VAVB=0V1+Rω=VV1=RωV..............(1)

The string moves along with the block speed V. No slipping between string and cylinder ensures that
VCD=0VC=VDV=V1RωV1=VRω..............(2)

(1) and (2) are possible, only if
V1=0 and V=Rωω=VR
