Equating components of velocity along the length for the string,
As shown in figure
$V\sin \theta =V_o\cos \theta$
$V=V_o\cot {30}^{\circ }=\sqrt{3}{V}_o$
Hence, the value of $k$ is $\sqrt{3}=1.732$
