Given : In the figure θ=tan1(2) then the correct direction of the magnetic field at P can be show by the arrow


Solution: For M.cosθ point P is at axis, so direction of magnetic field will be along M.cosθ and for M.sinθ point P is perpendicular

So, direction will be just opposite to M Sinθ

Bₐ = μ4π×2Mcosθr3

B₁ = μ4π×2Msinθr3

tanα = B1B2=tanθ2 ( eq-1)

we have θ=tan1(2)

tanθ=2

from eq-1 we get tanα=22=12

tanα=1tanθ

tanα=cotθ

tanα=tan(π2θ)

α=(π2θ)

θ+θ=π2

Thus the correct direction of the magnetic field is θ=tan1(2)
