Question

In the following figure ABC is right angled at A.AP is perpendicular to BC.if AB=3cm,BC= 5cm &AC=4cm find the area of ∆ABC.Also find the length of AD

Solution

Given that triangle ABC right angled at A.

Base = AB = 3 cm, Height = AC = 4 cm

Therefore, Area of the triangle = 1/2 × Base x Height.

Area =1/2 × AB x AC =1/2 × 3 cm x 4 cm

⇒ Area = 6 cm2.

Now, consider BC = Base, Height = AD.

Area =1/2 × Base x Height.

⇒ 6 cm2 = 5 cm x AD

AD = 6 / 5

⇒ AD = 1.2 cm
