In the following figure, ray AD is a bisector of BAC. If AB=4.8 cm,BD=4 cm and DC=5 cm, find the value of x (in cm).

In ΔABD and ΔACD
BAD=CAD (AD is bisector of BAC)
AD=AD
ΔABDΔACD
By Thales' theorem
ABAC=BDCD
Here, AB=4.8 cm,BD=4 cm,CD=5 cm,AC=x
4.8x=45
x=4.8×54
x=1.2×5=6.0 cm
