In the following monobromination reaction, the number of possible chiral product(s) is/are:

Open in App
Solution

  1. There is no chiral centre in molecule hence achiral.
  2. There is a formation of new chiral centre in a molecule therefore 21 = 2 chiral products.
  3. There can be two types of substitution here:

Same side substitution as already present chiral centre in a molecule then molecule is achiral because of the POS in it.

Other side substitution as already present chiral centre in a molecule then molecule is chiral.

  1. There is a chiral centre in a molecule hence chiral product.
  2. There is a chiral centre in a molecule hence chiral product.

Total chiral products = 5
