It’s a correct statement because of the following reason.

Analyzing the reason

As in NaCl (Sodium Chloride / Common salt), sodium is present as Na+ ion and chlorine is present as Cl ion.

Electronic configurations of ions are:

Na+=[He]2s22p6
Cl=[Ne]3s23p6
