In the following question a statement of assertion (A) is followed by a statement of reason (R).
Assertion - Indian government introduced hybrid varieties of millets.
Reason - Millet was introduced in India as it requires a great amount of water which is easily available for agriculture.
Millets are considered to be coarse grains that are primarily used for animal feed or brewing. During the green revolution, hybrid maize, jowar and bajra were successfully developed in India. Hybrid breeding has led to the development of several high yielding varieties resistant to water stress. Millets usually grow in arid regions, so it should be resistant to water stress.
Millets require far less water than paddy or wheat and they are also pest free. They are more resilient and require absolutely no pesticide.
