Millets are extremely nutrient rich and environment friendly as they need very little water to grow unlike rice, and other varieties, as they have a more developed root system. Being an agricultural country, India's major problem is water scarcity. Millets can provide good alternative as they can tolerate increased temperatures and droughts.
Millets can also be stored easily for a long time. They are used as food and fodder also as they are nutrient rich.
