The population in India has increased rapidly during the past few decades with increasing demand for basic needs like shelter, food, clothes, demand for jobs, education etc. resulted in declining agricultural land due to industrialization and urbanization.
With increasing population and decreasing agriculture land, the country needs to increase the yield per unit area from the available land for agriculture. This can be done by production of hybrid crops of high yielding varieties, modern farming techniques, etc.
Hence both assertion and reason are true and assertion is correctly explained by the reason.
