Reason (R) Carbohydrates are hydrates of carbon so compounds which follow Cx(H2O)y formula are carbohydrates.

(b) Both assertion and reason are wrong statements. Deoxyribose C5H10O4 is a carbohydrate because it follow C5(H2O)2 formula and exist as polyhydroxy carbonyl compound whose cyclic structure is as shown below
