Solution

The correct option is D

The statement of the Assertion is false but the Reason is true.

  1. Bats possess the ability to fly at night.
  2. The wave produced by Bats is hence called ultrasonic as it is inaudible to humans as well as has a speed greater than the speed of sound.
  3. Bats always emit ultrasonic waves with a very high frequency.
  4. The call frequency of a bat is pitched at 20-100 kHz, which is too high for humans to hear.
  5. The sound produced by them are reflected back to them, hitting various objects and returning to them as echoes.
  6. Through this process, they can hear the obstacles in front of them.
  7. SONAR system also works on the same principle.
  8. Thus, Assertion is false and the reason is true.
  9. Hence, the correct option is D.
