In the given circuit find out :
(i) maximum value of current in the circuit,
(ii) root mean square value of current in the circuit,

Solution

Given,

Inductive reactance $$L=0.1\ H$$

Resistance $$R=40\,\Omega $$  

Input voltage $$V=400\,\sin 300t$$

Impedance $$Z=\sqrt{{{R}^{2}}+{{\left( \omega L \right)}^{2}}}=\sqrt{{{40}^{2}}+{{\left( 300\times 0.1 \right)}^{2}}}=50\,\Omega $$

Maximum value of current, $${{I}_{\max }}=\dfrac{{{V}_{\max }}}{Z}=\dfrac{400}{50}=8\,A$$

RMS Current, $${{I}_{rms}}=\dfrac{{{I}_{\max }}}{\sqrt{2}}=\dfrac{8}{\sqrt{2}}=4\sqrt{2}\,A$$
