The above image represents a pollen grain. Each pollen grain is surrounded by a tough protective wall called an exine(P). This is a tough covering that allows the pollen grain to survive harsh conditions for long periods of time. The intine (Q) is another thin protective coating. The mature pollen grain has 2 cells - vegetative cell and the generative cell. The vegetative cell is bigger, abundant food reserve and large nucleus. the generative cell is small, spindle-shaped with dense cytoplasm and a nucleus. The germ pore in the pollen grain, a thin-walled area through which the germ tube or pollen tube emerges on germination.
P - Exine
Q - Intine
R - Vegetative cell
S - Germ pore
T - Generative cell
