In the given figure a monkey of mass m is climbing a rope hanging from the roof with acceleration a. the coefficient of static friction between the body of the monkey and the rope is μ find the direction and value of friction on the monkey.

Solution

If there would be no friction between monkey and the rope, the monkey will slide down the ground. It is the frictional force which take him in upward direction.
So,
Fmg=ma
F=mg+ma
F=m(g+a)
