In the given figure, $ABCD$ is a rectangle. Find the values of $x$ and $y$.

In Rectangle $ABCD$

$AB=CD,AD=BC$

Given that $AB=13,BC=7,AD=3x+y,CD=x+y$

Now,

$x+y=13$ __ (1)

$3x+y=7$__ (2)

solving (1) & (2)

$x+y=13$

$3x+y=7$

________

$x-3x=13-7$

$⟹-2x=6$

$⟹-x=\frac{6}{2}$

$⟹x=-3$

Now subtitute $x$ in eq (1)

$x+y=13$

$⟹-3+y=13$

$⟹y=13+3$

$⟹y=16$
