Light, especially blue light, triggers the stomatal opening. Specific blue light receptors are involved. Light is absorbed in the green pigments of the chloroplasts. Certain wavelengths are taken in by the chlorophyll, but green (and yellow) light is not absorbed. These wavelengths enter the leaf and either pass through or are reflected out. Hence hibiscus plant when exposed to green light results in closure of stomata because guard cells became flaccid.
