To increase food production, there are two aspects which need to be focussed on - (i) Plant breeding, to increase the production of plant products and (ii) Animal husbandry, to increase the production of animal products. To meet national requirement of food production, the establishment of plant breeding technique called ‘Green Revolution’ brought about a huge improvement in the production of cereals. The success of Green Revolution also led to the ‘White Revolution’ and ‘Blue Revolution’ in India. The Blue Revolution aimed at increasing the productivity of aquatic animals whereas the White Revolution aimed at increasing the productivity of dairy products in India. Overall the aim of these three programmes was to meet the aspect of food production by improving and also increasing the global food productivity.
