Let the equivalent resistance between a and c be req.
Also due to symmetry, the resistance connected to the line passing through b is useless.
From figure, effective resistance between P and M R=2rreq=(2r)req2r+req
Equivalent resistance between a and c req=2r+(2r)req2r+req
r2eq(2r)req4r2=0
req=2r±4r24(4r2)2=(1±5)r=(1+5)r
req=(1+5)×2(51)=2×4=8Ω
