In the leaves of strawberry, [shown in picture below] what causes the water droplets formation at the edge of leaf in the absence of dew in atmosphere?
Root pressure
Root pressure is the force which pushes water through xylem when soil moisture content is high. It is usually high at night in the absence of transpiration. This root pressure, leads to the accumulation of water in the form of water droplets on the edge of leaves of grasses or small plants. It is not visible in tall plants as root pressure is not enough to push water to such heights. This should not be confused with “dew drops ”.
