In the long for of the periodic table, 1st period is the shortest. The elements present in the first period are two i.e.; Hydrogen (H) and Helium (He).
Due to the least number of elements in a period, this period is called as the very short or the shortest period.
Period number 2 and 3 has eight elements each and are called as short periods.
Long form of periodic Table: In the long form of the periodic table, elements are arranged in the order of their increasing atomic number in the tabular form.
The horizontal rows are called as periods.
The vertical columns are called as groups.
