Solution

In the modern periodic table, the properties of the elements are periodic function of their atomic number. Atomic number = No of electrons. Depending on the number of electron, the chemical properties differ. For ex., the properties of alkali metals are same. This is because all alkali metals are having same valence electrons. Similarly all the halogens are having same properties. But the properties of one group differs from other. That is why its stated that the properties of the elements are periodic function of atomic number (electronic configuration)
