Solution

Periodic table:

  1. In the modern periodic table, the elements are established on the increasing atomic numbers.
  2. The elements in the horizontal rows of a periodic table represent periods.
  3. The elements having an equal number of electrons in their valence shells are placed in vertical columns called groups.
  4. Hence, elements of each group or family have same number of electrons in their outermost or valence shell.

Therefore, in the modern periodic table, the number of shells remains the same throughout the period.
