Question

In the solution to this problem "A machine has a velocity ratio of 4. It is used to raise a load of 200N by 4m using an effort 20kgf. Find the work done on the machine. Take g = 10 m/s2." effort is calculated as 200. Please explain how this was calculated & the formula for this. Also do explain the unit kgf of effort (what does f stand for).

Solution

Here given that effort is 20kgf . But during calculation effort is taken as 200 because kgf is converted to newton( we do calculations in SI units, because all other given quntities are in SI units)

What is kgf?
The kilogram-force (kgf or kgF), is a gravitational metric unit of force. It is equal to the magnitude of the force exerted by one kilogram of mass in the gravitational field. ie, F=m*g ,here m=1 kg and g=10 m/s2,
so, 1kgf=10N

thats how effort is taken in the problem as 200.It is 200N.
