Solution

The correct option is C in the neck and middle piece

Sperm cells are the human male gametes that are produced in the testes. Morphologically, sperm cells are made up of the head, neck, middle piece (body) and tail part.

The neck region has proximal and distal centriole while the middle piece has a ring centriole at its one end.

Head region of sperm contains hydrolytic enzymes (hyaluronidase and acrosin), these enzymes break down the outer membrane covering of the ovum, called the zona pellucida, thus allowing the nucleus in the sperm cell to join with the haploid nucleus in the ovum.

Mitochondria present in the middle piece of the sperm helps in the generation of ATP which facilitates the sperm motility.

The fibrous sheath is a unique cytoskeletal structure that influences the degree of flexibility, the plane of flagellar motion, and shape of the flagellar beat.
