At the night of December 2-3, 1984 gas clouds of methyl iso-cyanate (MIC) were formed in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. The cause of leakage was from the pesticide plant in union carbide India limited. The gas had acute health effects as well as long term effects. The leaked acute effects lead to the death of more than 3000 people. Acute effects included suffocation, vomiting, pulmonary oedema as well as cerebral oedema. It also brought harmful mutational changes which caused genetic disorders.
