In the topic "Interaction of Various Substances with Water" it says that objects which are lighter than water floats and objects which are heavier sink. Then why does a needle or pin sink in water even in a huge pond.

Density of water is less (999 kg/m3) and density of metal present as alloy in needle or pin is high and is in the range of 7000- 9000 (kg/m3). As the density is more they sink in the pond.
