Question

In the traditional way of filtration we use 3 pots with charcoal at the top most pot, gravel at the second pot and sand at the third pot. but in place of charcoal and gravel if we use sand will iit be a better idea?why?

charcoal helps in adsorbing organic substances that produce disagreeable odour and taste. Gravel and sand help in filtering water . Gravel is thicker and hence filters most of the water. sand is much finer and it provides an even filteration. If one uses just sand, all of the organic matter might not get removed and the water wont be properly filtered
